Edition

A set of authorized copies of a work — prints, photographs, casts — each numbered against the set's size.

An edition is the deliberate multiple: a print issued in 50 numbered impressions, a bronze cast in 8. Each copy is identified as number N of size M ("3/50"), and the edition's size is a promise — part of what each buyer paid for.

Editioned inventory needs structure a spreadsheet fights: one parent work, many physical copies, each with its own number, condition, location, and sale status. Artist's proofs and printer's proofs sit outside the numbered run and are tracked as their own types.
