A condition report records what state a work is in — surface, structure, frame, prior restoration — usually with photographs, at a moment that matters: before a loan, after shipping, at consignment intake.
Reports protect everyone: they establish a baseline for insurance claims, settle who-caused-what disputes between venues, and are standard practice for fairs and museum loans. They belong on the work's record, versioned over time.
